Random job adverts I’ve clicked on

With the job search in full swing on through various job sites, agencies and of course LinkedIn, there are some where the title and description seems appealing but then I read a sentence in the JD that throws everything off course.

Two of these in particular stand out:

1.  The managing of multi-million pound contracts was fine, the sector was fine, influencing senior stakeholders – no problem.  Then came the part I wasn’t too sure about: “Approx 10 years experience working in a Missile design…”.

I mean I have quite varied experience in many sectors but this is one I haven’t quite had the opportunity in yet!

2.  About two months ago, a director-level opportunity presented itself with a full relocation package and a good package, including family medical and private education for children.  The position was at an Financial Services firm in Zurich for at least two years (not quite sure how they’d enforce that?).  The relocation deal didn’t appeal so imagine my surprise when an SRM position comes up that requires 8 years experience in similar roles including in the IT sector.  All this is great, but once again they need all candidates to strongly consider relocation.

Wait for it…the relocation isn’t in Europe this time, but in Asia.  Ok not bad, far-east perhaps or India?  Nope – Afghanistan!  I can only imagine how supplier negotiations would work there.  Me: “We need to work out this point in the contract as it doesn’t work for us”, Them: “How is this for an incentive?” [holding a gun to my head].

Have you had any random experiences like this?
